Giving Legacies at UofH

Lorry I. Lokey (z”l)

Lover of science, staunch friend of the State of Israel and a prominent philanthropist who has partnered with the University of Haifa to establish the Lorry I. Lokey City Campus in downtown Haifa. He received an honorary doctorate from the University in 2019.

Alfred I. Tauber

Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Professor Emeritus of Philosophy specializing in Hematology who has been an indispensable force of change at the University of Haifa. as Chairman of the Board of Governors from 2013-2019 and as one of its greatest supporters. The University awarded him with an honorary doctorate in 2011.

Tzili Charney

Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors, active leader of the American Society of the University of Haifa and honorary doctorate recipient (2018). She and her late husband Leon Charney were a driving force behind the development of the marine sciences program. She recently established The Leon H. Charney Center for New Diplomacy.

Visionary founder and benefactor of The Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences and Honorary Life Chairman of the Board of Governors. The University awarded him with an honorary doctorate in 2001.

Herta Amir

Generous benefactor and dedicated advocate for Israel as a former member of the National Board of AIPAC. She and her late husband Paul Amir have been staunch supporters of research and teaching in the social sciences. She received an honorary doctorate from the University in 2016 and has recently been named an honorary life member of its Board of Governors.

Paul (Shmuel) Amir (z”l)

Generous benefactor, dedicated Jewish leader and past President of the American Society of the University of Haifa. He and his wife Herta Amir have been staunch supporters of research and teaching in the social sciences. He was awarded with an honorary doctorate in 2010. 

Lady Irene Hatter

Co-Chair of University of Haifa UK, member of the Board of Trustees of the Recanati Institute of Maritime Studies, and honorary doctorate recipient (2014). She and her late husband Sir Maurice Hatter are longstanding supporters of marine technologies, student scholarships and campus life.

Sir Maurice Hatter (z”l)

Longstanding friend of the University, prominent member of the Board of Governors, and honorary doctorate recipient (1996) . He and his wife Lady Irene Hatter have been generous supporters of marine technologies, student scholarships and campus life.  

Doron Livnat

Longstanding member of the University’s Board of Governors and honorary doctorate recipient (2016). His generosity led to the establishment of the Weiss-Livnat International MA Program in Holocaust Studies and the Weiss-Livnat International Center for Holocaust Research and Education. He also sponsors the ‘Access for All’ program at the University of Haifa.
